To Know Him and Make Him Known

I’m New

What Should I Expect?

At HBC you will find a friendly and caring place where those who have been in the Church for years and those who are newer come together, and friends become family.  All of us are at different levels of spiritual growth and knowledge.  Church is not a place to judge, but to build up, and this sets us apart from several of the other Baptist Churches in the area.  We are committed to encouraging each other, growing together in Christ.

We are dedicated to God’s Word, committed to applying it to daily life, and concerned with the well-being of one another.  Located in the Hessville neighborhood of Hammond, we have a warm, friendly small-church feel.

Our Church may be small in number, but we are active in ministries.  Believing that each individual is important to God makes you important to us.  We hope you will give us a chance to make you feel a part of the Family.

Where are you Located?

HBC is in the eastern part of Hammond, just one block east of Kennedy Ave and north of 165th street. Our sign on 165th marks the block where our building is found in the middle of the block.

When are your Services?

Sunday morning we offer Sunday School for all ages @ 9:00 am and our Worship Service starts @ 10:00 am.  We also have a more informal Bible Study and Fellowship time Sunday evenings @ 6:00 pm in our fellowship hall.

What is your service like?

Our worship services last about an hour and 15 minutes and contain solid teaching from God’s Word along with singing and other forms of corporate worship.  Our song service is led by our Worship Team which uses tracks to conduct a “blended” mix of newer songs and favorite hymns.  Pastor strives to present the Scripture in a clear and interesting way.  Almost all messages are new and current in their relevance.  The use of power point adds to the understanding and recall of the sermon.  Believing that the office of Pastor is that of Pastor/Teacher, messages are intended to allow the Holy Spirit do the convicting, and not rely on emotion or a sense of guilt.

What about my Children?

HBC is a family oriented and family friendly church.  We offer programs and ministries for all ages using Bible-based curriculums. Whether you have infants, young children or teenagers in high-school, we have age specific ministries for all.  We have a nursey for the youngest children for both Sunday activities. Our Children’s Church is a ministry offered to children ages 5 thru 3rd grade during the AM Worship Service.

On Wednesday Nights from 6:30-8:00 pm we offer AWANA for children ages 4 years thru 6th grade.  An exciting Youth Group for 7th-12th grade meets in their newly remodeled room during the same time.  Adults are encouraged to be a part of Prayer and Bible Study Time

7-8pm.

HBC also wants families to know that we are striving to do our best to protect and care for your children. We were one of the first in the area to institute a Child Protection Policy and all persons working with any child under 18 years of age have completed special training and had a background check.

What should I wear?

Honestly, we are not as concerned about what you look like on the outside as we are that you are looking for a place to worship God.  At our church you will find a wide range of attire; from jeans and t-shirts to suits and dresses.  We simply want you to come as you are, from whatever walk of life, and respectfully worship God with us.

Do you provide transportation?

Vans do run in the Hessville and Hammond area on Wednesdays to bring children and the youth.  Call (219) 844-1922 for more info or to arrange a ride.

What happens when i arrive?

As you enter the doors you will be welcomed by one of our people.  They will make sure to grab you a bulletin when you enter.  It contains information that you may find helpful.  Just inside you should find a welcome table. Feel free to ask one of the smiling faces there any further questions you have or grab some more info about our church.  Our folks want you to feel as welcomed as possible.

Please fill out one of our visitor’s cards in the welcome packet.  If you give the completed card to the pastor, he has a free gift for you.

what if I have questions about the bible?

The Bible Studies on Sunday and Wednesday nights are a great time to ask.  Pastor encourages questions about the Word of God and would be honored to help.  If you prefer something more personal, appointments can be made to talk to him.  He does only counsel with men, couples and families.  The Pastor’s wife does the counseling with woman and is known for her compassion and gracious nature.

 Do you offer financial assistance?

Our limited resources and convictions based on the teaching of Scriptures cause us to have the policy `that we offer financial assistance ONLY to members and regular attenders of HBC.
