There is a very special divine purpose for the existence of the Lord’s true church on earth today, and every single local New Testament Church must strive to make sure that it exist for, and excels in, that purpose. While there is always room for improvement, I am pleased to say that First Baptist strives to exist for the purpose of bringing glory to God in the things that He has designed His church to be and do. From our church’s purpose statement we claim that:
We exist for the glory of God, in being a vital and vibrant part of the body of Christ
- Worshipping,
- Ministering,
- Carrying out the “Great Commission” from Horseheads, NY…throughout the world.
In fulfilling this purpose, it is our desire as a church to biblically undertake a two-fold function, which is succinctly stated as our mission statement:
“To Know Him, and Make Him Known.”
This means that we very deliberately determine:
1. To know Christ personally, intimately, and in the knowledge of His Word, being faithful disciples of Christ.
2. To share Christ personally with others, that is, making disciples. We are endeavoring to “let our light so shine before men” (Matt. 5:16), and to “go and make disciples of all nations, instructing them in the teachings of Christ” (Matt. 28:19-20).
